Why did you originally start?
I have my son to thank for encouraging me to join Jump Start after he read the flyer posted through our letterbox. We both knew that I needed to lose weight and get fit, but for years, I had a hundred excuses for why I didn't have time to exercise. The turning point was him saying “ Mum, I know that you are not happy. I just want you to feel better about yourself. Why don't you just call them and see what happens?”. After my first meeting with Heidi, I really felt that I had come to the right place . It is definitely one of the best decisions I have ever made.
What do you enjoy best about JUMP START?
Being able to exercise outside with a group of friendly people and a motivational trainer. Although it is hard work, we are always able to smile!
What goals have you achieved?
• My fitness and health has definitely improved, with a drop in both blood pressure and cholesterol levels.
• I have changed my diet in a way which I am confident that I can stick to.
• I have dropped a dress size, lost 10 kgs and 17.5 cm since I started. Yippee!
• I actually look forward to exercise sessions rather than looking for ways to avoid them!
What types of sessions do you participate in?
I attend Mums & Bubs twice a week with Lisa and Steph and have recently started the Core Strength session with Elaine on Saturday mornings.
Is there anything in particular that has helped you reach your goals?
The invaluable support and advice from Heidi, Lisa, Steph and Elaine has undoubtedly been the driving factor that has helped me achieve my goals. When I have been ready to collapse, Lisa, Steph & Elaine have encouraged me to keep going! Heidi's weekly newsletters have also been of great help as there is so much useful information about health and nutrition.
What are your goals for the future?
Ideally, I would like to lose another 10 kgs, but more importantly, my goal is to maintain my fitness and the changes that I have made to my diet. Long-term, I would like to reach the age of 50, fitter and healthier than I was at 40..
Any advice for people thinking of starting a health and fitness program?
The first step is always the hardest but once you've made it, you will not look back. The team at Jump Start will help find a program which is right for you and work with you to achieve your goals. Believe in yourself- you CAN do it!
