ElaineElaine

Coming from a sporting background of netball, basketball, dancing and gymnastics, Elaine looks at exercise as a tool to make the body stronger and fitter, and as a form of social interaction, rather than purely a weight loss device. Like most women, she has gone through stages where she has struggled with weight and body image, and has learnt to use exercise as a way to strengthen her body and increase her self confidence. Elaine sees exercise as a way to enhance all aspects of life, and hopes to inspire the people she trains to take on the same attitude.

A Moment With ... Elaine

What was your childhood ambition?
To be a nun!! (My sisters and I were obsessed with the Sound of Music when we were growing up). Then I wanted to be a Doctor.

What do you love most about your job?
The people, the variety, and having the ability to help someone reach their goal, especially for some people when this is life changing.

If you weren’t a Personal Trainer, what would you be?
I’m still trying to figure that out.

What job have you had in the past that is very different to what you do now?
My first job was at Wendy’s serving Ice cream, milkshakes and hot dogs.

What is the strangest thing you have ever had to do at work?
I attempted to break up a fight when I was Managing a Pub. This particular fight involved five men who broke two tables! Not my brightest moment!

Apart from keeping fit, what are your favourite pastimes?
Catching up with my friends and family, spending Summer at the beach, and playing netball.

Name 2 people, dead or alive, that you would invite to a dinner party and why?
My sister Kate, because I miss spending time with her, and William Shatner (Denny Crane) to keep us laughing.

What is your ideal holiday location?
Anywhere with a beach! I’d love to go to South America and to the Greek Islands.

What is your favourite movie?
I don’t have a favourite. I usually go for anything girly and romantic- Dirty Dancing, The Notebook, Mean Girls, Pride and Prejudice (The BBC series), very sad I know!

Who do you find inspiring?
Anyone who dedicates their life to helping others in need. It’s easy to take life for granted and forget how lucky we are. I believe you need to see another persons suffering to truly appreciate that.
